PHOENIX (AP) — Victor Oladipo scored a season-high 26 points while Bam Adebayo added 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Miami Heat beat the Phoenix Suns 104-96 on Friday night.
The Heat and Suns entered the game with the same record, but heading in opposite directions. Miami has won 9 of their last 13 games. Phoenix has dropped to .500 this season, losing 5 straight games, 8 of 9 and 13 of 17.
The Heat led for most of the game and didn’t trail in the second half, but remained pretty tight. Shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-6 on 3-pointers, Oladipo made a 3 with 1:36 left to take the Heat up 102-92.
Jimmy Butler added 20 points to his heat while Max Strath scored 19 points.
The devastated Suns have already lost several key players due to injuries, including three-time All-Star Devin Booker (groin pain), Cam Johnson (knee) and Cam Payne (foot). Missing. Chris Paul left in the second quarter with a sore right hip.
DeAndre Ayton led the Suns with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Torrey Craig scored 17 points.
The Heat also lacked several pieces, including high-scoring guard Tyler Herro, who was sidelined due to a back spasm.
Oladipo hit a half-court shot at the end of the first quarter to give the Heat a 30-23 advantage. Miami held the advantage through most of the second quarter and he led 51-46 at halftime.
Oladipo hit another buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter and made a driving layup to put the Heat ahead 78-73.
