Evansville, Indiana (WFIE) – USI Women’s Basketball is off to a 7-6 start to the season. Last weekend they played their first Ohio Valley Conference game and split the results. After an impressive victory over Southeast Missouri on Thursday, the Eagles lost to a very good team in Eastern Illinois on New Year’s Eve.
Defense has always been the calling card for Rick Stein’s team, and they’ve done it well, holding the team to just 66 points a game. They are also making their opponents 4 rebounds per game. Since I won’t be able to attend the Big Dance this year, I’m hoping to get some attention in the conference games and qualify for the OVC tournament.
“Everyone has their own niche of what they do and how they are going to do it. We’re going to mix and match,” said USI Women’s Basketball Head Coach Rick Stein. “Obviously we feel built on the defensive end and in wins we have defended well. reduced to.”
“We take pride in our defense. We feel that our defense is what makes us,” said USI senior forward Hannah Heiscock. When we get out, we put those teams back right behind them and that really levels up our game. We are excited and ready to compete.”
USI Women will resume their activities in Morehead on Thursday at 4:00.
