The USC women’s basketball team is officially on the nation’s radar after the Trojans beat No. 2 Stanford on Sunday. A solid 55-46 win over Cardinal marked USC’s first victory over a top-two opponent since beating Stanford in 2008, landing the Trojans a string of national honors rightfully. I was allowed to.
On Monday (Jan. 16), ESPN selected USC’s upset victory as the win of the week and also named a head coach Lindsey Gottlieb coach this week. His top 10 win in USC under Gottlieb was his second since taking over his USC program last season.

The Trojans held Stanford to a season-low 19 points in the first half (only 4 in the first quarter) and a season-low 29% shooting from the floor. USC didn’t trail in the game either, and the Cardinals only pulled once in the second quarter to see the Trojans keep pushing and lead the rest of the way. The decision also snapped a 39-game winning streak that the Cardinals had against his Pac-12 opponents. USC’s impressive effort has cemented them as the US Basketball Writers’ Association’s National Team of the Week, as announced Tuesday (January 17).
