United States Soccer Federation sporting director Ernie Stewart will move to PSV Eindhoven following the resignation of men’s national team general manager Brian McBride.
Burhalter and McBride were hired by Stewart, and their coaching contracts expired on December 31.
US Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cohn said in a statement: “Ernie is sad to leave, but he has laid a strong foundation, built a strong sports staff and the future of US soccer is bright. He assured me.
“Today we have the unique opportunity to welcome a new Sporting Director to build on this momentum. We look forward to engaging with new leaders who match our ambitions and bring our vision for the future to life, including, to take the national team to the next level.”
The USSF hired the consultancy Sportsology to handle the search for Stewart’s replacement.
Sportsology is also tasked with “a complete review of the sports sector of US soccer.”
