TROY, Alabama (WSFA) – Troy University Athletics Director Brent Jones has announced the appointment of Stuart Gore as the new women’s soccer head coach.

“I am thrilled to be coming to Troy and leading this program,” said Gore. “Brent Jones and Prime Minister Hawkins have presented a vision for the future of Troy Soccer that demonstrates the growth potential of a soccer program that competes for the championship in the Sun Belt Conference. Mr Jones, Dr Hawkins and Troy Soccer and I would like to thank the other search committees for trusting me to lead that student-athlete.”

Gore comes to Troy with a very extensive resume that includes the NAIA National Championship and multiple regular season championships. Most recently, he was head coach at Northwestern State University. He led the school to his 25 wins, NCAA Tournament appearances, and two Southland his Conference Player of the Year.

“Coach Gore is a winning national champion coach at every level he has coached,” said Jones. “He is an extremely talented recruiter with a deep love for the sport of women’s football. His team plays with passion and toughness on the pitch and has achieved success in the classroom and community. We are thrilled to have him on campus and to work alongside our amazing student-athletes.”

Prior to coaching at Northwestern State University, he served as associate head coach for one season at the University of North Dakota and two seasons at James Madison University. During the 2018 season, Gore started his CAA regular season at the school where he was a fixture in the championship.

From 2013 to 2017, Gore was the head coach of Northwest Ohio and helped build that program from the ground up. In his second season, he coached the NAIA National Championships program in his games. Two years later, in 2016, he reached the summit, and the school won the national competition in the fourth year of the program.

“The best indicator of what you can do in the future is what you did in the past,” said Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., president of the University. “Stuart Gore has produced winning teams everywhere he has coached and we expect him to continue that excellent track record at Troy. In addition, Coach Gore believes he has set a realistic goal and is ready to take on the challenge. I understand our culture.”

With Gore at the helm, the program is on track and the future of women’s football looks very bright.
