Of all positions in Major League Baseball, third base arguably has the most star power. Manny Machado, Nolan Arenado, Rafael Deversand Cleveland’s own Jose Ramirez.
MLB Network polled who they think this baseman is the best heading into the 2023 season, and here’s the ranking they came up with:
Looking at the other names on that list, Ramirez coming in as the second best third baseman is quite respectable. He’s one of baseball’s most consistent hitters and an underrated defender as well.
Last season, Ramirez hit .280/.355/.514 and had 29 home runs and a career-high 126 RBIs. He finished his fourth place in his MVP voting, and he was one of the main reasons why the Guardians surprised many and won the American League his Central crown.
Jose also dealt with a torn ligament in his thumb halfway through last season but was still able to play at All-Star level. . This is a prediction that MLB Network had already foreseen.
Machado’s stats are very comparable to Ramirez’s. But he has one area where the Padres third baseman has been beaten by Jose. It’s the power department. 531 compared to Jose’s .514, and Machado also hit more home runs than Ramirez.
I would argue that Jose Ramirez is the best third baseman in baseball, but I am also aware of Machado’s case.
Cleveland fans may also know another name on the top 10 list.Forming Cleveland Prospects Yandi Diaz We come in 9th place.
Diaz started his career with the then-Indians before being traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. Jake BowersThat trade clearly wasn’t one of the best deals the Cleveland front office has made, but it’s good to see Yandy playing well.
