The Channel League champion San Marcos youth soccer team finished a great regular season with a 2-0 victory over Pacifica on Wednesday night.

Favi Rosales and Leonel Olivo scored for the Royals as they went 13-0-1 for their third consecutive Channel League title and went 14-1-2 overall.

They will participate in the CIF-SS playoffs next week.

“Pacifica is a good team with a lot of offensive talent, and this game really helped us prepare for the playoffs.”

Rosales pushed the Royals forward during the first 12 minutes of play when he jumped up and nodded the ball past the goalkeeper. Sophomore Luis Botello crosses the ball from a set piece.

Ten minutes later, Luke Sheffey got loose on the right, dribbled across a defender’s path and stumbled into the penalty box.Olivo scored the penalty kick.

“I thought Yael Garay did a great job tonight at right-back,” said coach Paul McLean. “He dribbled hard, passed well, got the ball in the air. Yael was great.

“Luis Botello and John Najera helped us to maintain possession in midfield and the attacking group was effective. This group is excited to play in the CIF play-offs.”
