Augusta, GA (WRDW/WAGT) – Kids learn about basketball and the man with a dream at the Augusta Dream Center.
Roy Peake, Assistant Trainer at William Avery Basketball Camp, said:
Participants say they already knew a lot about him.
“He was a great civil rights leader and an inspiration to all. We learned about this in school,” said attendees Brianna and Jackson James. .
“He was part of the civil rights movement,” says Dorian Sub Jr.
They also got the chance to learn something new.
“I found out he went all over the state and marched in every state. says.
Parents say it was easy to take advantage of the double opportunity.
Dorian Sabb Sr. said: King was one of the world’s greatest leaders he helped him in basketball, so it was truly a win-win. “
The actual lessons taught here mirror what MLK taught.
“He taught us that we want to work together, we love each other, and we want to build on that,” Peake said.
Sabb Sr. says he hopes it will be a lesson far beyond the court.
“I hope this helps him see basketball in a different light. You come here to learn skills and drills, but there’s always a greater purpose in life,” says Sabb Sr. .
