A week before Kobe Bryant was tragically killed in a helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, Lakers teammate Tarik Black met him in Los Angeles. In his final conversation with Kobe, Black asked how proud the NBA legend was.
“I was in rehab and flying back to Los Angeles,” Black told Eurohoops and Achilleas Mavrodontis. ‘He said to me, ‘Young man, I am proud of you. I am really proud.”
“We had that conversation and then boom…a week later. Damn man. Damn.”
A current Olympiacos Piraeus player, Black played for the Lakers from 2014-2017, sharing a locker room with Kobe for two years.
“My memoir is a personal conversation, just me and him. It’s texting and the relationship values and fairness we’ve built for each other,” Black said.
“He taught us something bigger than basketball.”
