Syracuse basketball was excellent on both ends most nights, beating Virginia Tech 82-72 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Wednesday night. With the win, the Orange improved to 10-6 (4-2) on the season, but the Hokies fell to 11-6 (1-5). SU is now 8-1 against Va Tech in the dome. Next, Syracuse will stay home and play Notre Dame on Saturday night.
Joe Girard was one of five players in double figures for Syracuse, scoring a team-high 24 points, along with three assists and two steals. Jesse Edwards (13), Judah Mintz (12), Justin Taylor (10) and Malik Brown (11) also hit double figures. Brown also recorded 12 rebounds for his first career double-double. Edwards had nine rebounds, six assists and two blocks.
After a competitive first half, Syracuse used a 22-6 run to start the second half and push their lead to 22.
Syracuse were really good offensively most nights with crisp ball movement and good shooting. Conversely, with a solid defense, Virginia Tech had a shooting percentage he was 43.3% and just 3-19 (15.8%) beyond the arc.

The Hokies lead with Grant Basil with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds and Justin Matz with 21 points and 9 assists.
