The Red Bluff High men’s soccer team lost the Eastern Athletic League opener 5-0 at Pleasant Valley High on Friday afternoon.

The Spartans are coming off their Christmas break and coach Claudio Martinez said they lost a bit of their endurance. The Spartans, now 5-4, will wrestle before their next expedition with Shasta.

Garrett Powell scored like a Vikings (8-3) with a goal in the 7th minute of the game. From there, Cabin Muff took over the scoring for the hosts, scoring goals in the 20th and 27th minutes to give PV a 3–0 lead.

Gering Spina scored in the 33rd minute to give the Vikings a 4-0 advantage and lead them to the break.

It was a good start for the Vikings, who saw their Tuesday night match against Live Oak at Asgard Yard slip away in the final minutes.

“The players were upset about the way they played on Tuesday, so that was great. It was just a few mistakes we made,” said Vikings coach Luis Lugo. We practiced on a stormy Wednesday night, we worked on some things, made some adjustments, discussed how to improve team dynamics and came here to wrap up. “

The Vikings got off to a good start to the league season, but it was rough for the visiting Spartans.

“It was a tough start to the season, but it was good,” Martinez said. “We need to keep working and develop more skills to achieve better results in the next games. I hope we can get the best results.”

In fact, Sparta’s defense did much better in the second half, allowing just one third goal of the game for Muff from a corner kick in the 65th minute.

The Spartans return home on January 11th and visit Shasta at 7pm. Vikings will host Enterprise next Friday at 5pm.
