(Reuters) – Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has resigned as head coach of MacArthur FC after less than seven months, the A-League team said.

According to a statement posted on MacArthur’s official website, the club and York, who assumed his first role as head coach and was appointed in July, “have mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately.”

In a statement, York said: “I would like to thank Chairman Gino Mara, CEO Sam Kruslovic, all the owner groups, all the staff and the fans of MacArthur FC.

“I am leaving the football club with a great team who will continue to challenge for more silverware.”

York led the club to its first-ever trophy when MacArthur won the Australian Cup last year, leaving the team sixth in the A-League after losing 1–0 to Adelaide United on Friday.

“I would like to thank Dwight Yorke and his assistant Russell Latapie for their contributions to our club. In particular, Dwight led McArthur to his first silverware victory in the 2022 Australian Cup. (Reporting by Michael Church, Hong Kong; Editing by Daniel Wallis)
