EDWARDSVILLE, IL – SIUE’s men’s soccer head coach, Cale Wasserman, has been added to the Cougars roster along with three spring signings. Connor Gramke (Edwardsville), Anis Smajlovic (Mehlville, Missouri) and Stephen Saladin (St. Louis) came to SIUE in the spring semester.
“I’m really excited about the three additions we were able to bring in,” Wasserman said. You get an entire semester to work with them. Ideally, being here now and being able to go to spring training and games.”

Remaining 3 years qualification
Wassermann, Gramke manager: Conor is a true centre-forward, not only with the ability to play with his back to goal, but also with a hunger to reach the end of serve in the goal area. He is an Edwardsville High School alumnus who grew up in our backyard, which is a huge bonus. He is a hardworking and honest player who packs a punch in how he attacks and defends from the front of the field.

Wasserman on Smajlovic: Anis is dangerous in front of goal whenever he has the ball. His technique and ability to deceive defenders and goalkeepers in and around the goal area is a major threat. He’s a young player with high ceilings and I’m looking forward to watching him grow and build his great career here.
Stephen Saladin

St. Louis Scott Gallagher Academy (MLS NEXT)
Remaining 4 years qualification
Wasserman, Saladin manager: Stephen was a fast-paced winger from St. Louis, an All-American in high school and already being tested as one of the fastest players on the team. He is aggressive and dynamic in large areas, but a hard worker off the ball. His pace and aggression cause problems, and his nose, which creates scoring chances, will be another great addition to our program.
Wasserman said: “All three of us grew up at the St. Louis Scott Gallagher club but have different qualities on the pitch. They have similar mindsets and styles of play that align very well with the current group. “I would like to say a huge thank you to our coaching staff, our compliance office, and our academic advisors as it is not an easy task to recruit, commit and qualify our children over the winter break. I am grateful and can’t wait to add to this class with the freshmen in August.”
