Shannons Weekend Sixer: High-Octane Picks for NFL and College Football

Game day has arrived, and this weekend’s matchups are heating up. Get ready for some fierce competition and explosive scoring across the board.

Here’s your weekend six-pack to get you started!

College Football Picks for Saturday, Nov 9th

Ole Miss vs. Georgia (-2.5)

With Georgia favored by -2.5, the Bulldogs seem like the stronger pick. While Ole Miss, led by QB Jaxson Dart, has a high-powered offense. Georgia’s defense, featuring stars like Malaki Starks and CJ Aleen, is tough against both the run and pass, making it difficult for Ole Miss to sustain drives. The Bulldogs’ depth and consistency, especially in tough matchups, should allow them to cover the small spread of -2.5, even with Ole Miss’s offensive threats.  Lane Kiffin has a way of not doing well in bigger games.  I considere this to be a huge game for the Rebels so Im going with Kirby Smart and the Dawgs.

Iowa State (-3) vs. Kansas

Iowa State’s slight road favorite status against Kansas comes down to their tough defense. The Cyclones have steadily improved on both sides of the ball, with quarterback Rocco Becht and a solid receiving corps finding rhythm just in time for key conference games. Iowa State’s defense has been one of the Big 12’s more disciplined units, creating a challenging matchup for a Kansas team that depends heavily on the run. If Iowa State can pressure Kansas and control the tempo, they should cover the spread with a strong defensive showing and a balanced offensive approach.  After a surprising upset home loss to the Red Raiders of Texas Tech last week this is a get right game for the Cyclones.  Look for them to bounce back and take out their frustrations on the Jayhawks.

Indiana (-14.5) vs. Michigan

Indiana Hoosiers and Dave Cignetti have been on fire and one of the biggest surprises to come out of the Big 10 conference this season. With a home game hosting the Michigan Wolverines at 5-4 see anything changing. Keep in mind that so far IU has beat every team they have faced by double digits. They have been an ATS covering machine. Michigan, while highly efficient on both sides of the ball, has gone through a demanding season, They are simply not the national champions they were a season ago and it is very obvious now.  They are barely above .500 and don’t expect them to be able to do much vs. this Hoosier opportunistic D. Tayven Jackson has an opportunity to make this line favorable for those backing the Hoosiers at home. Don’t be scared of this line at -14.5, it is likely that Indiana pulls away in the 2nd half and wins this one by 20+.

NFL Picks for Sunday, Nov 10th

Commanders (-2.5) vs. Steelers

Washington at -2.5 over the Steelers is a solid play, given the Commanders’ steady progress on offense with Jayden Daniels showing marked improvement each week. His connection to wide receivers Dyami Brown and Noah Brown has added reliability, and with Daniels being a dual threat, puts stress on the Steelers secondary that’s had its share of issues this season. Defensively, the Commanders’ front line can apply pressure on Russell Wilson, forcing Pittsburgh to rely on the run, which Washington has defended well. In a close line, Washington’s balanced attack and home-field advantage make them the pick to cover by at least a field goal..

Bills (-4) vs. Colts

The Bills have an advantage over the Colts, primarily thanks to their explosive offense and the playmaking abilities of Josh Allen. Buffalo can stretch the field against a Colts defense that has struggled against top quarterbacks. While Indy quarterback Joe Flacco has managed to stabilize the Colts’ offense, he’s up against a Bills defense that excels at creating pressure and forcing turnovers. With their offensive firepower and defensive resilience, they have a strong shot at covering the -4. I have the Bills winning this one by a TD or more.

Lions (-3.5) vs. Texans

Taking the Lions at -3.5 against Houston aligns well with Detroit’s current momentum and balanced offensive approach. Jared Goff has been efficient under center, and with versatile weapons like Amon-Ra St. Brown and David Montgomery, the Lions have established a rhythm that keeps defenses guessing. Houston’s impressive young QB C.J. Stroud has shown poise, but Detroit’s defense has excelled at disrupting backfields, which could lead to a tough day for Stroud. He is also without some of his top weapons on offense due to injuries. The Lions’ ability to control the tempo and pressure opponents on defense makes them a good pick to win and cover the number.

Bonus Pick: Alvin Kamara over 69.5 rushing yards

Taking Alvin Kamara over 69.5 rushing yards this week is a strong play given his recent usage and consistency in the Saints’ backfield. Kamara has been highly productive, especially as the Saints lean on him to balance their offense. Facing a defense that’s been susceptible to the run, Kamara has a prime opportunity to pile on the yards. Expect him to hit this mark as he remains the key offensive weapon for the Saints.
