Along Jim Calfa: Former two-division world champion Sergio Martinez hopes to face IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in 2023.
Martinez is confident he can give Golovkin boxing lessons and is eager to let him try.
At this point, we can’t rule out the possibility that Golovkin is giving #3 WBA Martinez a chance. Canelo because he has faced weaker opponents for the most part since his 2019, except for his one fight against Alvarez.
If GGG is looking to make easy money, it makes sense to think he’ll give Martinez a spontaneous title shot.
Sure, there will be a huge backlash that Golovkin will have to deal with, but I doubt it will keep him from sleeping at night.
Martinez’s five comeback opponents:

- Jose Miguel Fandino (15-10, 8 KOs)
Martinez turns 48 next month on February 21st, a fossil of the sport. Bernard Hopkins fought at that age, but he was a special case because of his skill and his ability to put on weight.
“I can give him boxing lessons.i am getting better everydayI am not as good as I used to be. It’s a lot better,” Sergio Martinez, 47, told Izquierdazo.
“In 2023, I have a world title fight starting in July.
Given Sergio’s age, the 40-year-old Golovkin will be ridiculed endlessly by boxing fans when he goes to great lengths to give the aging former two-division world champion an undeserved title shot.
Golovkin has become sluggish and no longer the fighter he used to be, but he can still throw punches and should easily take down the soon-to-be 48-year-old Martinez.
It is unclear why the World Boxing Association gave Sergio ‘Maravilla’ Martinez such a high rating.
“Golovkin and I are a great match in style. I think we can have a great fight,” Martinez said.
“Still not Golovkin level yetbecause the level of opposition I had was inferior, and sometimes very inferior.
