former saints Coach Sean Payton had no shortage of options for returning to virtual coaching this offseason. Fox analysts are sometimes connected in their work with the Cardinals, Panthers, Broncos and Texans.
However, Payton has yet to find a new coaching home, and controversy is currently erupting over the Super Bowl XLIV champion’s visit to Denver.
When Carolina hired the former colts Coach Frank Reich Thursday, Mark Muske’s Washington Post A source said Peyton “loves the idea of coaching and defending Russell Wilson, but fears potential power struggles with members of the owning group.” Payton added that he has had active interactions with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who has been a member of the Broncos’ ownership group since July 2022.
Payton, however, denied that the conversation with Denver was anything but friendly.
“There is no truth to this,” Peyton wrote Thursday night in a tweet citing Maske’s report. “We had a great visit and Broncos ownership was great!”
Payton remains on the market as the Broncos continue to search for a replacement for Nathaniel Hackett, who the team fired on December 26.
