D’Angelo Russell scored 22 points and Anthony Edwards added 21 as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Houston Rockets 104-96 for their fourth straight win.
Minnesota scored the first 11 points of the fourth quarter to lead 88-81. Rudy Gobert scored 4 points in that span and Taurean Prince added 3. Houston missed six of his shots and had a turnover that helped the Timberwolves come out on top.
Kenyon Martin Jr. dunked Houston’s first point of the quarter, but Minnesota scored the next six points to push their lead to 94-83 with about six minutes remaining.
With Houston leading 8-2, Kevin Porter Jr. and Martin scored 3s to put the Rockets ahead by 5 minutes later. But Gobert scored a dunk for the Timberwolves to start a 6-0 spurt and with about two minutes left he made it 102-91 to secure the win.
Porter scored 25 points and Alperen Seguin added 18 points for the Rockets on a seven-game losing streak. Jalen Green had a tough game, making only 4 of 15 shots overall, including one of six 3-point attempts to finish with 9 points.
The Rockets had an early 20-point lead, but the Timberwolves cut the lead to 62-58 by halftime.
Edwards scored the first five points of the second half to put Minnesota up 63–62. Porter made Houston’s 3 and Russell’s 3 to extend the lead to 70–65 before the Timberwolves scored the next seven points.
Porter made a three to end the run before both teams fell into a scoring drought, with neither scoring nearly two and a half minutes. Jabari Smith Jr. scored the next point on a jump shot with about six minutes left in the quarter, and his free throw put Houston on top 71–70 seconds later.
A basket by Prince gave the Timberwolves a one-point lead late in the third quarter. However, Houston scored the final five points of the period to lead 81-77 and advance to the fourth round.
