January 4 — RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The Rio Grande defeated IU Kokomo 71-68 on Tuesday in the River States Conference men’s basketball game between the division leaders.

The Red Storm pushed the East Division-leading record to 6-0. The Cougars still lead the West Division with him 5-1, but Midway’s 4-1 puts him close to IUK.

RSC honors Hines

The RSC has named Xavier Hines Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for December 26-January. 1.

The senior forward from Noblesville averaged 16.0 points per game and shot 70% from the field in two games with the Cougars. He scored his 20 points off the bench and from 3-point range he put in a 6-10 performance as Mount Vernon narrowly lost to his Nazarene. He started the next game, going perfect 5-for-5 with two trays from the field and scoring 12 points in a win over Lawrence Tech.
