Rachel: Where in the US can we watch Serie A, especially Salernitana? Also, do you have any updates on international matches played in the US, such as Premier League teams, La Liga teams, national teams?

Jason: Will Portugal’s Primeira Liga get new TV or streaming rights in the US for the 2023/2024 season?
World Soccer Talk: Portugal continues to be a hotbed of talent — either as a first stop for signed players from South America (for example Enso Fernández) who want to prove themselves in Europe before moving to a bigger club or league.
That said, the reality is that it’s still a niche league. Yes, it’s buried in GolTV, but all of the major Primeira’s La Liga matches are televised. This is something no other US broadcaster can offer.
The Portuguese League could continue on GolTV. That is, until another station paid more than his GolTV offered.
Bryan: Given that our contract with League 1 and beIN Sports expires after next season, it would be nice if we could bring more attention to the league if it were easier to watch than it is here in the US right now.
World Soccer Talk: French Ligue 1 are in a difficult position. Other than beIN SPORTS, no other English-language television station in the United States can guarantee that every major Ligue 1 match will be broadcast live in English, Spanish and streaming.
All other stations have competing leagues (e.g. CBS and Serie A) or other sports (ESPN’s college football), which will result in the majority of games not being broadcast. So that path is not executable.
At the same time, perhaps League 1 has found its level at beIN SPORTS, as they look to their future reach in the US. The league has done little to make the promotion successful in the United States. And despite owning highly marketable clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, PSG is something of a UEFA Champions League phenomenon in the United States.
Michal: Why isn’t the Australian A-League on American TV? Paramount+ shows the Australian A-League, Paramount+ shows the US Asian Champions League. ESPN+ shows the Australian Cup. It makes no sense!
World Soccer Talk: Paramount+ has Australian A-League rights in Australia. However, after my contract with ESPN+ ended, no one bought the rights to show the league in the US.
As for the Asian Champions League, it was a separate rights deal with AFC that did not include A-League rights.

Tony: When will Peacock show games in 4K?
World Soccer Talk: No date has been announced yet. As we first reported, this year some Premier League matches will be 4K for him with his Peacock. On top of that good news, some games he can hear in 2023 with Dolby Atmos and 5.1 audio.
ESPN
Brendan: What happened to the great ESPN commentator and MLS cover John Champion? Has he returned to England? I haven’t seen him in any game.
World Soccer Talk: ESPN commentator John Champion has been in the UK since the 2023 MLS season ended. Although he’s still under contract with ESPN, England’s has been given permission to call some Premier League matches on Amazon Prime and he World Cup matches on ITV.
But he’s back on ESPN. The champion has commented on five English matches in the past week on ESPN+ from the FA Cup and League Cup.
Judging by the sound quality (as John mentioned in the Reader Mailbag request for questions), Champion is definitely calling the game from a UK or US studio. I love his Jon Champion commentary, but calling the game out of a barren-sounding studio rather than from a commentary gantry isn’t ideal for viewers.
The big question for John Champion is where will he go from here now that ESPN has a very limited number of football rights. If MLS isn’t pushing him to sign his pass to Apple for his MLS season, they’re missing an opportunity.
MLS
Speaking of MLS. I have a question for Chris.
Chris: Any info on how MLS games will be broadcast on Apple? I’d love to hear more about the pre- and post-game plans. Will locals also participate in the broadcast?
World Soccer Talk: We will share more details on all aspects of MLS Season Pass coverage in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we recommend subscribing to the MLS Season Pass for local coverage. You can then use the app to sync audio from local radio stations with local audio rights to your game.
Based on a preliminary list of MLS commentators and analysts, there are talents who have worked with regional sports networks currently calling games for the MLS Season Pass. However, there is no guarantee that Steve Kangiarosi will call the New York Red Bulls game, as an example. He is likely to make calls to various teams throughout the season.
