Tallahassee, Florida — The Florida A&M men’s basketball team rebounded the Alabama State Hornets 38-34 on Monday’s 69-58 home win.
The Rattlers (4-16, 2-7 SWAC) had four players in double figures led by Noah Mellen with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Jalen Bates added his 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks, while Jordan Tilmon added his 15 points and he had 4 assists.
Led by Bates’ four offensive rebounds, FAMU crashed the offensive grass and knocked down 13 boards for 13-second chance points.
The FAMU defense held the Alabama State shooters to just 35% off the field. This includes his 21.1% from his range on three-pointers.

After jumping out to a 15-12 advantage, FAMU increased their lead to 20-12 with a 5-0 run with 9:08 remaining in the first half. The Rattlers then lost part of that lead, but he still entered halftime with a 34-28 advantage. FAMU relied on his shooting three-pointers during this period, knocking down his five shots accounting for 15 of 34 points.
FAMU maintained their lead before starting an 11–0 run, finishing with a Bates jumper to extend their lead to 50–34 to enter the contest with 14:19. The Hornets closed the gap before the game ended, but the Rattlers went the rest of the way to a 69-58 win. FAMU scored 18 of his 35 points in lane and handled business in the paint.

FAMU Women’s Basketball Falls to Alabama
Ahriahna Grizzle had a total of 31 points, but the FAMU women’s basketball team lost Monday at home to the Lady Hornets of Alabama, 77-68.
Grizzle added 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals in the 31-point game to lead the Rattlers (4-16, 2-7 SWAC). Mid Oryomi contributed 3 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks while Dylan Horton scored 11 points.
Led by Stasha Allen’s four offensive rebounds, FAMU crashed the offensive grass and brought down 17 boards for 11-second chance points.
FAMU did a great job intercepting Alabama’s shot in the contest, taking six blocks. Her three rejections of Oriyomi paved the way for the Rattlers individually.
how it happened
After falling behind 15-8, FAMU went on a 10-0 run with 5:03 left in the first quarter, culminating in an Oryomi three-pointer to take an 18-15 lead. The Rattlers then maintained that lead going into his break in the quarter with a 22-19 advantage. FAMU resorted to three-point shooting during this period, knocking down three shots to account for 9 of their 22 points.
After keeping their first quarter lead intact, FAMU started an 8-0 run at the 5:18 mark of the second period, highlighted by Horton’s bucket, increasing their lead to 37-27. Alabama then erased the FAMU lead in the final quarter of the game with a 77-68 comeback victory. FAMU took their chances in the post and scored 4 of 8 points in the paint.
