NFL Free Agent 2023: Ranking of the top 25 available players first appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The 2023 NFL’s free agent class is bursting with talent on both sides of the ball.

All eyes will be on the quarterback position with Lamar Jackson set to enter free agency alongside Tom Brady, Geno Smith, Daniel Jones and Jimmy Garoppolo. There is no shortage of running back positions available with Sacquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs and Tony Pollard.

Linebacker Loquan Smith tops the list along with Javon Hargrave as the defensive standout. If your team is focused on secondary improvements, James Bradberry or Jamel Dean could be the solution.

There are many other influential players from which it came. Let’s take a look at the top 25 free agents hitting the open market when the new league year begins on March 15th.

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Eagles): 259 carries for 1,269 yards and 11 TDs

Sanders enjoyed a bouncing campaign as he earned his first Pro Bowl nod and averaged over 5 yards per carry. While he’s less of a threat in the passing game, he’s proven he can boost any team’s backfield.

Year: 28

2022 Stats (Colts): 9.5 sacks, 29 tackles, 1 forced fumble

Ngakue’s ability to rush passers has helped make up for his struggles against runs. Teams are always looking for a game-changing pass rusher, and Nagakue is a sure fit for that position, making him the frontrunner for his position at the defensive end.

Year: 33

2022 Stats (Buccaneers): 3 sacks, 124 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 5 passes defended

David’s age has knocked him down a few places, but arguably, he’s still one of the most productive linebackers in the game. He’ll be well worth the price in free agency.

Year: 28

2022 Stats (Jaguar): 73 catches, 766 yards, 4 TDs

Engram regained form as one of the top tight ends in the league during his first season in Jacksonville. The former giant set Jaguar records for tight ends in catches (69) and receiving yards (739). Going to free agency isn’t bad.

Year: 26

Statistics for 2022: 78 catches, 933 yards, 3 TDs

Smith-Schuster isn’t the game breaker we saw in Pittsburgh, but in Kansas City he proved to be one of the better slot wideouts when healthy.

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Patriots): 67 catches, 804 yards, 6 TDs

Myers went from undrafted free agent to top free agent in the 2023 class. He’s been one of the most reliable options on the Patriots’ offense in recent seasons. It will be interesting to see how a change of scenery would affect his work if he were to move outside of New England.

19. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB

Year: 31

2022 Stats (49ers): 2,437 passing yards, 16 TDs, 4 INTs. 2 Rush TD

Garoppolo’s injury history is a serious concern, and he’s not blowing anyone away with his talent. Still, his 40-17 career record speaks for itself. The former New England Patriots quarterback just found a way to win. That’s enough to warrant an opportunity to start afresh as some new QB.

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Saints): 0.5 sacks, 29 tackles

The numbers above won’t excite anyone, but what about Davenport’s 32 pressure? He’s a top edge rusher in the weak free agent class for the position and should be paid accordingly.

Year: 32

Statistics for 2022 (Bill): INT 4 times, pass defense 8 times, tackle 63 times

Poyer is getting older, but he hasn’t shown it.

16. Daniel Jones, QB

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Giants): 3,205 passing yards, 15 TDs, 5 INTs. 708 lashing yards, 7 TDs

Jones has slowly but surely improved in the turnover department while displaying his talents as a double-threat quarterback. These qualities play a big role in his NFL today and should earn him a solid contract as a free agent.

Year: 28

McGlinchey is a solid right tackle and should get a lot of attention in free agency as the second best lineman on the market. He allowed just 23 pressures and five sacks with the 49ers in 2022.

14. Tony Pollard, RB

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Cowboys): 193 carries for 1,007 yards and 9 TDs. 39 catches, 371 yards, 3 TDs

Pollard has emerged as one of the top dual-threat running backs in the league. Pollard scrimmage for 1,000 yards for the second year in a row, despite Ezekiel Elliott stealing a carry. Having fresh legs only adds to his appeal in free agency.

13. Josh Jacobs, RB

Year: twenty five

2022 Stats (Raiders): 340 carries for 1,653 yards and 12 TDs. 53 catches, 400 yards

Jacobs is anti-Pollard as far as usage is concerned. He’s been busy since he started as a running back for the Raiders in 2019. However, after the 2022 career season, the team will offer him a hefty sum to join the backfield.

12. Jamel Dean, CB

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Buccaneers): 2 INT, 8 pass defenses, 57 tackles

Dean emerges as the second best cornerback available this offseason after a solid season in Tampa Bay. A young and reliable starting CB like Dean should be popular on the open market.

Year: 26

Stats for 2022 (Commander): 11.5 sacks, 64 tackles

Payne enjoyed a career with the Commanders and built a career in free agency. Even if his huge season in 2022 was an anomaly, his first-round pick in 2018 would be a great addition to the center of his line defense.

10. Jesse Bates, S

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Bengals): INT 4 times, pass defense 8 times, tackle 71 times

Bates should ball in the franchise tag and be rewarded with a sizable deal in free agency. prize.

9. CJ Gardner Johnson, S

Year: twenty five

2022 Stats (Eagles): INT 6 times, pass defense 8 times, tackle 67 times

Gardner-Johnson suffered a lacerated kidney in Week 12 and missed five games, but finished near the top of the league with six interceptions. The versatile young safety would be the perfect addition to any NFL secondary.

8. Geno Smith, QB

Year: 32

2022 Stats (Seahawks): 4,282 passing yards, 30 TDs, 11 INTs. 366 rushing yards, 1 TD

What a year it was for Geno Smith. After battling Drew Locke in training camp, the former New York Jets draft bust became a legitimate starting quarterback in Seattle. He will be rewarded with lucrative deals in free agency.

7. James Bradbury, CB

Year: 30

2022 Stats (Eagles): 3 INT (1 TD), 17 pass defense, 44 tackles

Bradbury proved in Philadelphia that he is one of the top cornerbacks in the league. His performance should earn him a pretty penny in free agency as the top available cornerback.

6. Orlando Brown, OT

Year: 27

Brown allowed 4 sacks and 38 pressure while playing in the franchise tag in 2022. He may not be a good tackle for him on the left, but he’s a real difference maker in his offensive line and is his top option in the position.

5. Saquon Barkley, RB

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Giants): 295 carries for 1,312 yards and 10 TDs. 57 catches, 338 yards

Since joining Philadelphia in 2020, Hargrave has continued to thrive inside the defensive line.

Year: 46

2022 Stats (Buccaneers): 4,694 passing yards, 25 TDs, 9 INTs

Is age finally starting to catch up with Tom Brady? Maybe. But he still continues to put up solid numbers for the Bucs, proving to be effective even when surrounded by a solid arsenal. decided to postpone him for another year, I would spit on the opportunity to sign him.

2. Rokan Smith, LB

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Ravens): 4.5 sacks, 169 tackles, 3 INT, 6 pass defense

Smith didn’t miss a beat after being traded from the Chicago Bears to the Baltimore Ravens. He became the only player other than Patrick Willis to record 150 or more tackles, 4 or more sacks, and 3 or more interceptions in 1 his season. He’s looking to grab a big prize as the best defenseman in his class this year’s free agent.

1. Lamar Jackson, QB

Year: 26

2022 Stats (Ravens): 2,242 passing yards, 17 TDs, 7 INTs. 764 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns (12 games)

It seems unlikely that the Ravens will allow the franchise quarterback to become free agency. He will become the most coveted player available.
