WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — Purdue University’s Fletcher Royer was named Big Ten Basketball Co-Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week for his team’s victory over Nebraska last Friday, the conference announced.
In the 73-55 win over the Cornhuskers, Royer posted a career-high 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field. He set a new program record for 3-point successes by a freshman with his 6/12 in his line of 3-pointers.
“They definitely focused on Zach. [Edey], and we knew they would,” Royer said of Nebraska’s defense after last week’s game. He patiently pushed it out and pulled it off.
Royer was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week alongside Rutgers senior guard Cam Spencer. He won the Player of the Week award for the first time in his career and his fourth Rookie of the Year award.
The first-year guard, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was Purdue’s second-most scoring all-time in the 2022-23 season, averaging 30 points per game after a close 64-63 win over Michigan State on the road. I recorded 13.4 points.

Royer also has 2.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 28.3 minutes per game. He leads the team with his 43 3-pointer successes this season, shooting from deep 37.4%.
Royer scored 17 points against the Spartans in the team’s most recent win, but Monday’s matchup didn’t qualify for this week’s Conference Awards.
Boilermakers will be back in action on Thursday, January 19th with two consecutive road games. This time, the team will face Minnesota at 7 p.m. inside Williams’ arena in Minneapolis.
