Pitt’s women’s soccer team had its most successful season in program history this fall, reaching the ACC Championship and NCAA tournament fields for the first time.
Coach Randy Waldrum led the Panthers to a record of 14 overall wins and 5 ACC wins.
He’s been rewarded for those efforts with a contract extension through the 2027 season, Athletics director Heather Reich announced Thursday.
“Randy has developed a winning culture everywhere and continues a track record of success here in the Pitts,” Reich said in a statement. I am delighted that Coach Waldrum will continue to coach the student-athletes and the expectations continue to rise and the women’s football program continues to deliver. I look forward to it.”

Waldrum became Pitt’s fourth coach in program history in December 2017, continuing a program that has won five games in two seasons. Since then, he has led the Panthers to his 45 wins, including his 36 in the last three seasons.
“I am very excited to continue my time at the University of Pittsburgh,” Waldrum said in a statement. I look forward to continuing.
“We still have work to do, but we are clearly moving in a positive direction.”
The Panthers reached the Sweet Sixteen in their first NCAA Tournament appearance, setting single-season program records for points (138) and goals (47). Pitt finished the season 12th in the United Soccer Coaches Rankings.
Before arriving in the pits, Waldrum led the Notre Dame Women’s Program for 14 seasons, where she won two national championships. He also previously coached at Baylor and Tulsa and in the National Women’s Soccer League.
Waldrum has been appointed Head Coach of the Nigeria Women’s Senior National Team for 2020. This is a role he plays in addition to his coaching role in the pits. He has also coached the U-23 national team, winning the 2012 and 2013 Four Nations Cups and the 2012 Three Nations Cup.
