PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers accomplished a rare feat – a road win in ACC play. They finished the weekend as one of only three teams with a winning record in a traveling conference game after defeating Georgia Tech.
The Panthers experienced just how difficult it is to travel in the ACC this week. After giving Duke his double-digit lead just a few days ago, they seemed destined to face Georgia Tech in Atlanta. However, the experienced guard’s play left the Yellow Jackets with their arms outstretched and snapped a two-game skid to the pits.
Rare Road Victory
Hard to win on the road with ACC. Ask No. 24 Duke, who lost to North Carolina State in Raleigh, No. 16 Miami, who lost to the same Wolfpack and Georgia Tech as the visitors, or Corral He left Gables and Pittsburgh as losers No. 11 Virginia . Only three he has a record of winning ACC teams in conference play and Pitt is one of them.
The Panthers’ experience, resilience and composure were on full display as the record returned to .500 away from the Petersen Events Center. Pitt suffered a drought of his three separate scoring runs of more than two minutes against Georgia Tech, but dug in to maintain the slight advantage that had built up over the course of the game. We played intensively and focused on defense.
Aesthetics isn’t the name of the game for these panthers – it’s about winning. All signs point to the rest of the season not looking great, but as long as you can score one more point than your opponent, it doesn’t matter. I understand that
Will Sibande Spark become Sibande Start?
The Nike Sibande was everything Pitt needed. Career-high batting average. When Sibande is at his best, he’s strong, fast, creative, and extremely confident. He puts pressure on defense with his explosiveness, shooting ability and speed, frequently
His one bucket in transition with 3:18 left in the game ended the Panthers’ 3:38 scoring drought and gave him a new season-high in points. Sibande scored his 21 points overall, his third time since arriving in the pits he has scored 20, adding six key defensive rebounds to help the team win on the grass. I helped get the ship on board.
As he’s played recently — 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in his last five contests — I don’t think Capel will slip Sibande into the starting lineup anytime soon. to Greg Elliott to start the second half in Atlanta, but Siband told him to stick with Elliott.
Sibande’s willingness to stick to his role as the sixth man speaks not just to his unselfishness, but to his comfort. Sibande seems to be enjoying playing games off the bench. Capel was able to adjust the minutes between Elliot and Sibande depending on which one played better, and the direct start of the game wasn’t a big deal, so both should keep their current roles. concern about rebound
The first half was ugly, mostly due to rebounding. Georgia Tech had a 23-17 combined rebounding advantage, an 8-4 offensive rebounding advantage, and a second offensive rebounding advantage, even though he was the only player on the floor who was taller than him at 6’9 against Pitt. had a 12-4 lead in chance points. The Yellow Jackets used Grass’ advantage to feed his shooter with an open 3-point, knocking down his eight triples in the first half (his make of 3-points averaged 6.9 per game as a team).
Pitt responded after halftime and actually won the battle on the boards in the second half. This limited the number of open looks from the depths that the Jackets saw and allowed the Panthers to come out in transition where their best offense was made. Pitt was much stronger on the inside and the team’s looser approach to the ball reflected an overall increase in strength. The Panthers dominated rebound this season, and while he’s unlikely to be on the team, he doesn’t need to win a game.
If Pitt can’t shy away from Grass like he did against Duke and Clemson, they could be well positioned to win many games.
