One of New Jersey’s top women’s soccer players chose college.
Pennington School star Morgan Koch made a verbal promise to Villanova on his Instagram page Thursday afternoon.
“I am very pleased to verbally announce that I will continue my academic and sporting career by playing Division 1 football at Villanova University,” Koch wrote. “I want to thank my coaches, family, teammates and friends who have helped me get this far.\\//’Slurp!! #NovaNation”
Koch is ending his junior campaign being named Trentian’s Prep and Area Player of the Year after setting a new single-season scoring record in the prestigious Pennington program. Koch finished with 40 goals to break the 38-year-old record as the Redhawks went 17-0-1 and won the Mercer County Tournament and Prep A Championship.
After breaking Heike Schneider’s 34-goal record, which has stood since 1984, Koch said: “It’s kind of crazy that I have the record now, given the talent that has come through Pennington and all of history. am.
A Hamilton native who competes at club level for Real Jersey FC, Koch can play as a center forward or drift out wide. She has the pace to pass defenders and the physicality to take on the challenge. At times, Pennington would drop her in midfield to pick up the ball and her team would try to mark her.
“I know she’s not a one-sided player,” said Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame coach Dr. Bill Hawkey. “She loves to get the ball and whether it’s on the wing, in the slot or through the middle, she gets people. She’s a dangerous child. “
Koch is set to enter his senior season with 71 career goals, with the milestone of 100 goals within reach.
Villanova went 4-8-4 and 3-5-2 overall in the Big East this fall under second-year coach Samar Azem.
