Penix, Klingler nominated for Seattle Sportster Awards

Seattle – A pair of Washington student-athletes and the UW football team have been nominated for the 2023 Seattle Sportster Awards.

Bailey Klingler is a candidate for Sports Star of the Year, Women’s SportsA unanimous First Team All-American, Klinger was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year in 2022 and led the league in home runs, RBIs and batting average. She was also a top 3 finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year honors.

Michael Pennix Jr. is a candidate for Sports Star of the Year, Men’s SportsPennix finished eighth in this year’s Heisman Trophy voting and was named Offensive Player of the Year after leading the Huskies to victory at the Alamo Bowl. With his 4,641 yards, he set his one-his-season passing yards record in Washington.

Nominated for Outstanding Season of UW Sports Story of the Year, given to individuals, groups of individuals, or organizations that have positively brought attention to and inspired the state of Washington. The Huskies (11-2, 7-2, Pac-12) won his bowl at Valero Alamo at No. 20 Texas, his fourth win against a ranked opponent in 2022. bottom. Karen DeBoerteam finished eighth in the AP final ballot.
