In a decision that caught many baseball fans off guard, Miami Marlins center fielder Jazz Chisholm was named the cover athlete for MLB: The Show 23 on Monday afternoon.
The final seven cover athletes — Shohei Ohtani, Fernando Tatis Jr., Javier Baez, Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, Ken Griffey Jr. and Josh Donaldson — all won Most Valuable Player awards before appearing on the cover. Or won the top. -5 in the previous MVP vote.
Jazz Chisholm breaks that streak. He was voted his 2022 MLB All-Star in his game at second base, but last season he only played 60 games and batted . Recorded 45 RBIs. He has yet to receive his MVP vote in his three-year career.
Since making his Major League debut in 2020, Chisholm has a .243 batting average, a .305 on-base percentage and a .754 OPS in 205 games.
