This weekend, University of Notre Dame staff will welcome the 2024 recruits to campus for Junior Day. These weekends are designed as an opportunity to gather targets on campus and really move the needle.
Under Marcus Freeman, the staff has significantly changed their expectations when it comes to hiring. It also promises to be a successful weekend.
Notre Dame Initiatives on Campus
Currently, the Irish program expects all seven of its 2024 commits to go to South Bend. Getting the whole group together is a big deal.
It starts with friendships between groups and continues to grow relationships with each other. This is essential for what promises to be another great recruiting class when all is done.
It’s also massive for maintaining momentum on the trail. Getting that group together in front of unmotivated recruits is invaluable. The ultimate recruitment tool.
Below are the 2024 recruits currently committed to Notre Dame.
QB CJ Carr-Saline (Michigan) HS
RB Aneyas Williams – Hannibal (Mo.) HS
WR Cam Williams – Glen Ellyn, Illinois Glenbird South
TE Jack Larsen – Charlotte (North Carolina) Catholic
OL Peter Jones – Malvern, Pennsylvania Prep
DL Owen Wafle – Princeton (NJ) Hung School
CB Karson Hobbs – Archbishop of Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller
Every committed player has ever participated in recruiting, talked to other less enthusiastic players, and pitched their vision. Carr and Williams, in particular, were very proactive recruiters. Bringing that duo together is massive.
2024 goals on campus
Target, who doesn’t plan to travel to South Bend this weekend, is where most of the attention is. These weekends are designed for these players, giving them the opportunity to fully understand the program and feel the energy. Notre Dame is going big with some of these uncommitted targets.
Targets not scheduled to be on campus include:
TE Walter Matthews – 6-7, 245 – Hiram (Ga.) HS
DE/LB Adarius Hayes – 6-4, 210 – Largo (Florida) HS
DE Bryce Young – 6-4, 215 – Charlotte (NC) Christian
DE Jacob Smith – 6-5, 225 – Windsor, Connecticut Loomis Chafee School
DT Jerod Smith – 6-4, 260 – Windsor, Connecticut Loomis Chafee School
DL Jide Abasiri – 6-6, 270 – Prior Lakes, Minnesota HS
LB Peyton Pierce – 6-2, 225 – Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy
S Brownte Johnson – 6-3, 170 – Fort Wayne (Indiana) North Side
Notre Dame has recently expanded its board of tight ends to include Matthews, one of the most physically gifted tight ends in its 2024 hiring class. At 6-7 and 250 pounds, the Georgia native has all the tools. Irish staff want to impress.

The son of former Notre Dame star defensive tackle Bryant Young, Bryce is a long, athletic defender with a growing body. He’s a development player, but he’s got some serious tools to work with. Notre Dame should be hard to beat for this legacy recruit.
As one of the most recognizable figures on campus, Hayes has the biggest advantage among recruits nationwide in 2024. He’s incredibly long and athletic and could be projected to the next level at both linebacker and Viper.
The Smith twins are two recruits who are highly valued by the staff. Jacob says he’s 6-5 pounds and he’s a 225-pound Viper his type, but Jerrod is a big-end recruit who eventually fits in. They appear to be a package deal and the Irishman may be on the market to acquire both.
At 6-6 and weighing 270, Abasiri is another useful defensive lineman Notre Dame is eyeing. The Minnesota native is back on campus this season after visiting for a Clemson game. Abasiri is a potential riser in his 2024 class.
The program has recruited anyone in the past two recruiting classes, not just linebackers. Pierce sits near the top of Notre Dame’s linebacker board and brings a great combination of physicality and explosiveness. This visit could continue their tremendous momentum with Texas prominence.
One of the top players in the state, Johnson is a talented athlete who weighs 6-3 pounds and weighs 170 pounds. There are plenty of schools out there that have him on wide receiver, but Notre Dame sees him on defense. If both sides are happy with their fit, it should be very difficult for Johnson to beat the Irishman.
Notre Dame welcomes 2025 recruits to the campus of the Northmont Wide Receiver in Clayton, Ohio. durian brewThe Ohio native is one of the top pass catchers in the recruiting class for 2025. Having him on campus is a great sign.
