MORGANTOWN, Wis. — The Mountaineers fell 0-3 in Big 12 Conference play on Saturday night after losing 76-62 to the No. 3 Kansas Jayhawks. West Virginia shot a dismal 33.9% from the field and the Jayhawks started hot.
West Virginia forward Jimmy Bell Jr. put the first points of the game on the board after guard Joe Toussaint found him in the middle of the paint in a contested lay-in. Eric Stevenson then shot a fade away his jumper along the left baseline, followed by Toussaint scoring from the right elbow to give the Mountaineers his 6–2 early-game advantage. .
Kansas started hot from a three-point range, shooting 4-5 from behind the arc as part of a 14-2 run to take a 16-8 lead.
Leading by as many as 12 in the first half, the Jayhawks trailed 42-35 by seven in the intermission after West Virginia cut the deficit in half. West Virginia forward Trey Mitchell and Kansas guard Grady Dick led all scorers by 10 points at halftime. 4, shooting 3-4 at the free flow line, Dick hit a perfect 3-3 from 3-point range.

West Virginia started the second half with 2-16 shooting, including 1-8 from three-point range, as the Jayhawks built a 19-point behind with 9:38 remaining.
Kansas poised in the second half as the Mountaineers were able to find the bottom of the net, shooting just 29.6% from the field in the second half as the Jayhawks pulled off a 76–62 win.
