BOONE COUNTY, Kentucky (WXIX) – A teenage boy’s dream came true Friday night at Lyle High School in Union.
It’s a moment Jacob Arnold’s family never thought would happen because of his medical condition, as Jacob has Prader-Willi Syndrome.
It happened on senior night when the Lyle Raiders offered team manager Jacob, who attends every game and practice, the chance to win a bucket.
“I was surprised,” said Jacob.
Jacob’s father, Mark, called his initial diagnosis “a grim one,” and doctors predicted that by the time Jacob was a teenager, he would be institutionalized and unable to care for himself. I said yes.
Mark says he gets emotional when he sees Jacob thriving.
“For Jacob, inclusion is everything,” said Mark. “He just wants to be like everyone else.”
Before entering the game, Jacob was honored alongside his fellow senior players.
“I know how much Jake meant to the football team and to the basketball players,” Mark said. When I say I want to do it, I go all out… let’s go!” ”
When Jacob left the game with the bucket, the crowd gave him a standing ovation and chanted his name.
“Trust the school, trust the students and you’ll be amazed at what happens,” Mark said.
