Former NFL head coach Jim Caldwell has been out of the league since 2019, but is reportedly working on his return.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, Caldwell was interviewed for open head coaching positions with the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos, and both meetings “went pretty well.”

Caldwell was hired as assistant head coach and quarterback coach under Brian Flores of the Miami Dolphins in February 2019, but resigned that July to deal with health issues.

A former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions, Caldwell’s career record is 62-50. He led the Colts to his two AFC South titles in his three seasons and qualified for Super Bowl XLIV, but the team lost to New Orleans his Saints. He also led the Lions to his two playoff appearances in his four years, but the team did not make it past the Wild’s card round.

The Panthers and Broncos have had disappointing seasons, but there’s reason to be optimistic.

Carolina closed out the 2022 campaign with five wins from their last eight games under interim head coach Steve Wilkes. With star quarterback Russell Wilson pairing up with an experienced head coach after Nathaniel Hackett hasn’t been in charge for a full season, Denver can look forward to a rebounding performance.

Any franchise would be wise to consider Caldwell as their next head coach. The 68-year-old is a proven winner who quickly turned the Panthers and Broncos around.
