NBA unveils jerseys for All-Star Game in Utah

Salt Lake City – The NBA unveiled the jerseys worn by the league’s top players at the All-Star Game in Utah in February.

All-Star jerseys were released on TNT Thursday night, along with starters from the Eastern and Western Conferences.

Both All-Star jerseys feature a gradient pattern that transitions from red at the shoulders to yellow at the waistline and blue at the shoulders, fading to black at the waist.

The red and yellow uniform is similar to the Jazz’s past city jerseys, highlighting the bright colors of northern Utah and the red rocks of the south.

LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been named captains of the All-Star team, though it’s unclear which players will wear which jerseys.

Significant change from Utah’s 1993 All-Star uniform

The new uniform is a significant change from the jersey worn the last time it was worn for the 1993 All-Star Game in Utah.

Before the league changed its All-Star team to a draft-based system, the Western Conference wore white uniforms with red lettering over a blue star.

The Eastern Conference All-Stars wore blue jerseys with white lettering over bright blue stars.

Jazz stars John Stockton and Karl Malone were named co-MVPs of the game wearing the now-iconic white All-Star uniforms.

All-Star Starter Nomination

On Thursday, the starting five players for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Stars were determined ahead of the February 19th event.

In the West, James (captain), Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic and Zion Williamson started.

Antetokounmpo (captain), Jason Tatum, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and former Jazzman Donovan Mitchell have been named the East’s starters.

Jazz forward Markkanen didn’t get enough total votes to be named a starter, but was ranked among the top five frontcourt players in the Western Conference.

Markkanen was ranked 4th by fellow NBA players, 5th by media insiders, and 7th in ban polls.

The fate of the Jazz forward now rests in the hands of the NBA coach charged with the All-Star Reserve nomination.

The All-Star Reserve will be named on February 2nd and will be selected by the NBA’s 30 head coaches.

New this year, James and Antentokounmpo will host an All-Star Draft right before the game, rather than a special TNT broadcast in the weeks leading up to the All-Star break.
