As my colleague Jacob Roode pointed out in a roundup of rumors hours ago, today (January 5th) any NBA team with an open roster spot is eligible to sign a player to a 10-day contract. It’s the first day. On that front, the Lakers have wasted no time looking for potential candidates for such a deal. According to Yahoo Sports’ Kyrsten Peek.

Dorsey recently appeared in three games for the Dallas Mavericks this season before being cut. He spent his first two seasons in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and the Memphis Grizzlies before spending his three years playing abroad in Israel and Greece. .

I don’t pretend to be an expert on Dorsey’s game.I also don’t believe a player signed by the Lakers to a 10-day deal for a 15th roster spot would likely make a big difference. No. And Dorsey has looked pretty good in the G League this year, scoring 24.2 points per game for the Texas Legends and shooting a torrid 45.7% from behind the arc according to his friends at Mavs Moneyball. and was cut to Dallas. Dorsey may be great, but he’s also a 6’5-foot shooting guard, and his physical profile and skill set aren’t lacking on this team. To that end, he would be the eighth player under 6’6 on the team’s 15-man roster if the Lakers actually signed him. It’s unlikely the team is taking advantage of one of the few avenues it has to improve, but perhaps the front office keeps options open and players they can sign if they make a consolidated trade involving multiple guards. The Lakers, like most NBA teams, don’t sign every player they train (shout out to Darren Collison).

So please file this as just due diligence for now. But even with all of Dorsey’s respect, it’s hard to see how he would fit into this version of the roster if the Lakers added him.
