MLB rumors: Roberto Perez agrees to contract with Giants in Red Sox offer

Giants reportedly adds depth behind the dishes.

MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo reported Sunday, citing sources, that the Giants have reached an agreement with veteran catcher Roberto Perez. Cotillo also said that the Boston Redaggressive bidFor Perez, he ultimately chose the Giants.

Perez, 34, spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with Cleveland from 2014-2021, appearing in 21 games last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. 207/.298/.360 with 55 homers and 192 RBIs in 511 career games.

Perez won two Gold Glove Awards for his work as a catcher for Cleveland in 2019 and 2020. 2019 was the best offensive season of his career when he hit a career-high 24 home runs in 119 games and posted a .239/.321/.452 batting average.

Once the deal is final, Perez will be in competition for the Giants, backing catcher for 26-year-old Joey Bart alongside Austin Winnes, who recently accepted a full assignment to the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. Blake Sabol.
