Luis Araez made a breakthrough last season as the first All-Star with the Minnesota Twins, but he will try to play with another team next time.

Minnesota reportedly traded the second baseman to the Miami Marlins in exchange for pitcher Pablo Lopez on Friday, according to ESPN. Jeff PassanPassan said there will be “more” pieces in the deal, but Alaez and Lopez are the headline names.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic said Minnesota has also landed a notable prospect in infielder Jose Salas.

Both sides have been working towards such a deal.

Dan Hayes The Athletic’s reported that the Twins are looking to “improve their roster” with an eye to a playoff potential with the return of Carlos Correa, and discussed acquiring Lopez to do so.Jon Heyman new york post He also noted that Minnesota had previously held debates over right-handedness.

However, Heyman also reported that the American League Central team is reluctant to part ways with Araez.

But that reluctance didn’t prevent a deal from being finalized on Friday, and the inclusion of such a promising young player in Salas certainly helped.

The Marlins added to their lineup last season’s American League batting average winner, who batted .316/.375/.420 in 144 games with eight homers and 49 RBIs. He earned a Silver Slugger and their All-Star selection as a result, and he finished 13th in his MVP voting in the American League.

334 in 92 games in 2019 and 4 seasons and 389 games in 2019. It records .314.

He’s a big loss for Minnesota, but they’ve upgraded their starting rotation with the addition of Lopez.

The 26-year-old finished the 2022 season with a 3.75 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 174 strikeouts in 180 innings. It was his third straight season campaign that he posted his ERA below 4.00, and he set career-best records in innings and strikeouts.

With the Twins firmly in the hunt for the American League Central title, Lopez has the advantage of being a valuable piece in the middle of the rotation. Losing a player like Araez is never easy, but Correa’s return has made him more prone to wear and tear due to his critical pitching depth.
