In November 2017, former Braves general manager John Coppolella received a severe sanction from Major League Baseball. Coppolella joined the Braves as director of baseball operations in 2006 and was director of professional scouting by 2011. His tenure as a baseball executive would have been seen as successful. His thumbprint is all over the Braves’ recent success. He was instrumental in acquiring talent such as Ronald Acuna, Austin Riley, Max Freed and Ozzie Albies.
Since being banned from baseball, Coppolella has apparently worked for a timeshare company and also has an MBA in finance. There is no word on whether he wants to return to the front office immediately, but he specifically said in his statement that he has applied for his reinstatement.
