Major League Baseball has reinstated former Atlanta Braves general manager John Coppolella from life ban, the commissioner’s office confirmed to The Athletic’s Jason Stark.
Coppolella was first placed on the permanent ineligible list in 2017 for circumventing international signing rules in 2015-16.
As a result of the investigation, the Braves confiscated a number of international signers from their system, including Kevin Maitan, and were also banned from signing Robert Poorson, now shortstop for the Oakland Athletics organization. He failed to sign an international contract worth more than $10,000 for the year and was stripped of a third-round selection in the MLB Draft.
“I can confirm that Mr. Coppolella has been reinstated,” Commissioner Rob Manfred told Stark. Other steps he has taken in response to this issue.
Coppolella also sent a statement to Stark:
