It’s a different story for the Boston Red Sox, who were hit hard on Tuesday.
Boston announced Tuesday that Trevor Story underwent replacement Tommy John surgery, leaving the centerfielder out for four to nine months. The Red Sox don’t have a middle fielder, not two, because Story was supposed to hand over to Xander Bogaerts.
The Red Sox have solid internal options to fill in both shortstop (Quique Hernández) and second baseman (Christian Arroyo), but doing so essentially eliminates the depth of the middle field.

Andrus, 34, is looking to have a solid season in 2022 with 149 appearances for the Oakland Athletics and Chicago White Sox. He plays all his games at shortstop.
Iglesias, 33, appeared in 118 games as a shortstop for the Colorado Rockies in 2022, posting .292/.328/.380 with three home runs and 47 RBIs. He has experience playing in Boston and the Reds in his two stints with the Sox, which puts him in 121 games.
