The St. Louis Cardinals made one big move this winter.
The Cardinals pried catcher Wilson Contreras off the Chicago Cubs, the team Contreras won the World Series with.
Contreras replaces Cardinals great Yadier Molina, who retired after his 19th major league season. The Cardinals also said goodbye to future Hall of Fame first baseman Albert Pujols.
The Cardinals finished a 93-win season to clinch their first National League Central Division title since 2019 and their second division title since 2015.
Given the state of National League Central, the Cardinals are once again the favorites as division champions in 2023. The Chicago Cubs had a strong offseason and the Milwaukee Brewers made some small, subtle moves, but the Cardinals are still the favorites.
Here’s a quick rundown of the Cardinals’ offseason moves.
Lost Free Agents: CF Ben Delgio, RHP Alex Reyes, LHP Jose Quintana, LF Corey Dickerson, 1B/DH Albert Pujols (retired), C Yadier Molina (retired)
