MLB free agency: Cubs agree terms to 2-year deal with Trey Mancini, according to report

The Chicago Cubs have agreed to a two-year deal with free agent hitter Trey Mancini that includes an opt-out. ESPN report.

Mancini, who turns 31 in March, is coming to the end of the 2022 season after hitting 18 home runs in 143 games with the Orioles and the Astros while batting .239/.319/.391.For his career, Mancini OPS+ He batted 113 in some of his six big league seasons and averaged 27 homers in 162 games.

Going into the offseason, CBS Sports ranked Mancini 36th among available free agents. Below is an excerpt from RJ Anderson’s article.

“After being traded to the Astros at deadline, Mancini looked like a different hitter. Mancini was obsessed with catching the ball. Hooking one up in the Crawford box after dealing with Waltymore was a good idea for a few days of pedaling after braving the Ord category climb. Mancini can play left field and first base, but could be a right-handed half for Chicago’s DH platoon. If there is a return season in 2023, Mancini may be inclined to exercise his reported opt-out a year into his contract with the Cubs.
