The Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art (MIMA) showcases another corner of the boxing ring, focusing on the artistry of the sport.entitled local herothe exhibit is partly inspired by ancient Greek gymnasiums and focuses on both the performance and mental aspects of boxing.
The show, which opens next month in Brussels, presents a series of artworks that further bridge the gap between boxing and the art world, including posters, photographs, drawings and unique combat uniforms. The museum also collaborates with boxing associations such as the BBA and his IBP. These associations are considered the “local heroes” of the sport, with fighters taking on the role of artists when it comes to showcasing their skill and creativity when they step into the ring.
Complementing the event, Algerian-Belgian artist Kenza Vandeputte coordinated in-ring outfits, while a pop-inspired poster by Dave Decat and a black-and-white photograph of Christopher de Béthune will be on display on match day.
