Miami Heat center Dwayne Dedmon will receive a one-game suspension following his ejection Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to The Athletic. It was one of the strangest exits he’s ever had, revealed after a heated argument with his Miami coaching staff in the second quarter.

Play was interrupted when Gabe Vincent was flooring the ball for his heat when suddenly an object flew onto the court. It turned out to be a handheld massage gun that Dedmon threw out of frustration after an altercation with the Heat’s coaching staff.

It’s not entirely clear what Dedmon was arguing with the coaching staff about, but in a pre-timeout play, he swiped the ball somewhat half-heartedly on Kenrich Williams’ drive.

Head coach Eric Spoelstra said, “It’s the Miami Heat. We’re all a collection of dangerous personalities.” That part was unacceptable.”

It’s been a frustrating few months for Dedmon, who is now in his third season with the Heat. He has not started a single game of his and averaged only 11.9 minutes per game, the shortest record of his career. Despite Bam Adebayo’s absence on Tuesday, Dedmon remained on the bench and two-way player Orlando Robinson joined the starter.

Sitting outside the Eastern Conference Top 6 with just 22-20, it’s just The Rock that the Heat are looking to make some move to the trade deadline. Dedmon already looked like a transfer contender for the 2023-24 season, given that his prize money was not guaranteed and the younger players on the roster seemed to see him off. After this incident, it became even more likely that Heat would explore Dedmon in action.
