Close to home in Northern Virginia, this week’s game featured two teams who knew each other well. Rivals Battlefield and the Patriots met five times last year, with the Bobcats winning the final game in the state semifinals.
On Friday, the team met for the first time this year. Battlefield, who boasts an undefeated record, didn’t get off to an exceptional start as the Pioneers took his 74-62 cathartic win. Both teams are in the top 20.

The Quakers were off last week, but face a big test on Thursday against No. 6 Jackson Reed.
6. Jackson Reid (17-4) LR: 6
According to MaxPreps, the Tigers defeated two DC Interscholastic Athletic Association teams before losing to Richmond’s John Marshall.
The Hawks have victories against Mount Vernon, Edison, and Potomac, Virginia.
The Pioneer outperformed the No. 12 Battlefield (74-62) in the battle against its Northern Virginia rival.
9. Bishop McNamara (14-4) LR: 9
The Mustangs, after losing to No. 1 Gonzaga at the start of the week, bounced back with three wins over the weekend.
10. Demassa (12-5) LR: 11
The Stags lost to No. 2 Paul VI, but beat Bishop Aileton and Bishop Rocklin (NY).
The Puma continued to cruise, defeating rival Eleanor Roosevelt and routing Northwestern.
12. Battlefield (15-1) LR: 10
The Bobcats’ glorious undefeated start was stopped by the No. 8 Patriots.
13. Good Counselor (12-5) LR: 14
The Falcons had a tough week in the WCAC, losing to St. Mary’s Liken before suffering their first loss to No. 4 St. John’s.
14. St Andrews (11-3) LR: 17
The Lions have won 11 of their last 12 games.
15. Riverdale Baptiste (13-1) LR: 18
The Crusaders won two games last week by more than 30 points.
16. Theodore Roosevelt (17-1) LR: 13
The Rough Riders lost for the first time last week to Pittsburgh’s Imani Christian Academy.
17. Shabach Christian (17-5) LR: NR
The Eagles beat No. 13 Good Counsel, Glenelg Country and St. Stephens/St. Johns. Agnes this winter.
Mustangs surpassed Chesapeake Science and Northeast last week.

The Swamin Hornets blew out Rockville and Clarksburg last week.
