Men’s basketball kicks off Ivy League play Monday night at Brown

Philadelphia – The University of Pennsylvania men’s basketball team kicks off the new year and heads north to face Brown in the Ivy League openers of both programs on Monday night. This is the first of four road games Quakers play at the Ivy convention. Their first home game won’t last until his January 16th hosting traveling partner and nemesis Princeton.

* The Quakers and Bears met for the 141st time in men’s basketball, with Penn leading the series 112-28.

*Penn has won his last three meetings and eight of his last nine meetings dating back to the 2016-17 season. Quakers wiped out last year, but barely…

* Penn won the first meeting at Palestra just one year ago (January 2, 2022), 77-73. George Smith 23 points for the win, Jordan Dingle Added 20.

* On February 19, the last time the Quakers were at Pichitla, they fled with an 89–88 victory.Both teams made plays in the final seconds, with Kino Lilly Jr. hitting a 3-pointer with 5.1 remaining. Clark Surajchart Went out to the full court and hit a contested jumper with just 0.4 lanes left. Dingle 31 points for the win, Max Martz 18 points and Sly chart Finished at 16.

*His 24.1 points per game average ranks third in the nation behind UAB’s Jordan Walker (24.7 points) and Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis (24.1 points).

*He has scored at least 20 points in his last 10 games (25.5 points in that stretch). The last Penn player to do so was Ernie Beck, who started his senior season (1952–53) with 16 such games.

* He has achieved double figures in 21 straight games. This is the eighth-longest streak in show history. Zach Rosen is 7th in 24 games.

*He scored 120 points in Penn’s four Big 5 games — 28 vs SJU, 37 vs LaSalle, 25 vs Vilanova, 30 vs Temple — a Big 5 record in one season.the previous 116 marks were set by Cliff Anderson of SJU in 1966-67.

2- Ivy League players named to the Lou Henson Awards Watchlist by CollegeInsider.com November 22: With Tosan Evbuomwan of Princeton University Jordan Dingle. The Henson Award is presented annually to a major midfielder in Japan.

3- consecutive weeks Dingle Named Ivy League Player of the Week before exams (11/28, 12/5, 12/12). He is only the second Penn player to achieve that feat, following Zach Rosen, who spent three straight weeks as POTW in the second half of the 2011-12 season.

3.00- Penn’s assist/turnover ratio (39/13) over the last two games. Quakers were 17/7 to Temple and 22/6 to Wilkes Wednesday.

3- Out-of-conference opponents selected to win their respective leagues in preseason: Iona (MAAC), Towson (CAA), Colgate (Patriot League). Ivy Penn, who his league’s media chose to win the Ancients his eight, lost to the Gales and Tigers, but defeated the Raiders.

102- Beat head coach with a pen Steve Donahue; When the Quakers defeated Delaware on November 27, 86-73, he became the seventh of Penn’s 20 head men’s basketball coaches, hitting triple figures on the winning line.
