The former Thai boxing world champion has broken a Guinness World Record.

Nicola Ireland kicked 64 items out of people’s heads in just one minute.

The mother of two has found success in Thai boxing, winning British, European and world titles.

She scored her most recent victory at Maidstone’s Ironworks Gym by knocking a boxing glove off a fellow member’s head.

“I was very calm and focused during the attempt. I was very determined to get it done,” she said.

“As I practiced in training, I was thinking about the rhythm of my kicks, trying to maintain continuity and hoping my glove holder would put the glove back on my head in time.”

Nikola already had 61 kick-offs in one minute during practice, but he wanted to take it even further during the official challenge, recording a total of 64 grabs. The official record so far is his 59.

She said: “I broke the record on my warm-up attempt and everyone cheered.

“But I quickly realized that I could do more, so I wanted to try again, because I thought I could do 65.

“After the second challenge, the gymnasium was filled with cheers and everyone seemed really happy to be able to participate.

“Besides the training, there were so many organizations and guidelines to follow that I was proud of myself.

“But most of all, I was relieved that so many people came and participated and I didn’t let them down.

“It was a big topic. I was already planning my next challenge driving home.”

Nicola got into the sport at the age of 15 when he was introduced to Bruce Lee’s martial art of martial arts.

She soon met coach Alan Keddle who showed her Thai boxing, which she immediately fell in love with.

One of her craziest adventures was when she fought inmates inside a Bangkok prison.

Now 40, Nicola wants to inspire her daughters and other female athletes.

“My message is to stay focused on your goals and, hopefully, surround yourself with like-minded people who are the best in their field.

Ask yourself, “Are you willing to make the necessary sacrifices to reach your goals?” If so, support is key to achieving your goals.

“Without my pad man and my sparring partner, I would never have become the world champion of Thai boxing, and without my husband training me, the glove holder and everyone else, the world is a world champion. The record could not have been achieved.

“Make a plan and don’t let the mundane things take your eyes off the ball.

“Life can be overwhelming, especially for moms these days. I think it’s important to keep up with others and just be yourself and do what works for you and makes you happy.

“Ask yourself, ‘What do I want and how do I get there?’ Then take incremental steps to get there each day.”
