LYNN – Hit the book before you get to the boxing ring. That’s the philosophy of Alexander Sepulveda, the owner of Lynn’s Private Jewels Boxing club.
Former boxer and now US boxing coach, Sepulveda has seen the ups and downs of the ring game, but believes children are the future.
“Help these kids, help them get an education, be a role model for the future, and help our community,” he told WBZ-TV.
Here in the gym, Sepulveda started a program to promote education first and boxing second. He laid the foundation and his students answered.
Boxing student Alexandra Mencia told WBZ at the gym, “It’s easier if you come here, especially if you come early, get your school work done, have space to relax and it’s usually quiet.” .Computer room.
Students have accomplished their work and become pillars of the community.
Boxing student Anderson Blanco said, “It’s not just about receiving, it’s about giving back. I want to give back to my community through my hard work. It’s reciprocity.” rice field.
The gym’s purpose is to serve as a haven for education, discipline, and friendship.
“When I come here, the first thing I do is say hello to everyone and then we all talk. We were all laughing when I walked in today,” Mencia said.
“Many of us come from different backgrounds, but at heart, we’re here because we feel the need to succeed,” Blanco told WBZ.
And for a coach, when a student says thank you to him, he knows this is the right path.
“When someone tells you, you save my life because I destroyed this community before and now I’m putting it back together. Make a change They are the ones who are,” said Sepulveda.
