Lubbock — The Brownwood Lions football team won 2-1-1 in four games in the Lubbock tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Brownwood opened the tournament on Thursday by beating Snyder to his 3-1 victory. On Friday, the Lions drew El Paso his Riverside 1-1 and Lubbock his Cooper he lost 0-3. On Saturday, the Lions ended his three-day tournament in Plainview with him winning 3–1.
The Lions’ record after the Lubbock Tournament was 3-4-1.
Brownwood’s next home game is the men’s/women’s doubleheader against San Angelo Lakeview on Tuesday. The women’s game will start at 5pm and the men’s game will start at 7pm.
Back at the Lubbock Tournament, Noah Barron scored two goals and Junior Martinez scored one in Thursday’s 3-1 victory over the Snyder Tigers against the Lions.
Pete Salazar assisted on Martinez’s goal, while Lions head coach Michael Westerman also credited Aidan Peña’s performance.
Goaltender Wyatt Jackson limited Snyder to one goal, and the Brownwood backline helped limit the Tigers to three shots.
In a 1–1 draw with El Paso Riverside, Barron scored the lone goal for Brownwood and his senior six goals in the Lions’ first six games of the year.
“Both teams dealt with high winds throughout the game,” Westerman said of the Riverside game. “I had a tough day playing soccer.”
Caleb Nelson scored two goals and Barron added one in Brownwood’s 3–1 victory over Plainview. Barron’s goal gave him seven in the Lions’ first seven games.
