With the NBA trade deadline approaching, San Antonio Spurs veteran wing Josh Richardson could be joining a new roster soon.
A look at the Spurs’ veteran deals reveals that Josh Richardson is an obvious trade candidate who no longer fits their roster.
Richardson’s contract expires at the end of the season, offering an incentive to move him now that the Spurs can take assets from his value.
As such, Bleacher Report has put Richardson into the trading block.
“Trade him now or watch him walk this offseason. San Antonio cannot re-sign him as they need to prioritize developing their young wing,” wrote The Bleacher Report. I’m here.
The veteran wing (29) only serves as an obstacle in the development of San Antonio’s young core, which includes players like Devin Vassell (22), Keldon Johnson (23) and Romeo Langford (23).
This season, Richardson averaged 11.2 points, 3.2 assists and 2.7 rebounds in about 23 minutes per game. Since being traded to the Spurs in 2022, Richardson has shot 90% from the free-throw line and 39% from 3-point range, topping NBA league averages this season.
Despite being a solid defender and a good shooter on the court, the veteran role player isn’t going to bring San Antonio much return in trade. must be
Teams looking to contend for the championship this season will find Richardson’s shooting prowess appealing and may be able to pull the trigger on the deal before the Feb. 9 trade deadline.
A potential suitor for Richardson’s skill set is the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas has been dealing with a wing injury all season and could reunite with former Maverick Richardson in 2020.
