Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid continued to climb the scoring leaderboard Saturday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Coming into the game against the Thunder, Embiid was just inside the top 10 on the Sixers’ all-time scoring list. The big man followed current Golden State his Warriors veteran Andre Iguodala, who tallied his 9,422 points during his tenure with the Sixers.
When Embiid scored eight points during the second quarter in Saturday’s game, he officially surpassed Iguodala for ninth on the Sixers’ all-time scoring list.
Next to Embiid is Sixers legend and former coach Maurice Cheeks. His No. 8 ranked Cheeks on the leaderboard closed out his Sixers career with 10,429 points. He achieved that number with 853 games over 11 seasons.
Beyond Cheeks include Red Carr, Billy Cunningham, Charles Barkley, Julius Erving, Dolph Schayes, Allen Iverson and Hal Greer.
Considering Embiid finished in the top 10 in his first seven seasons in the NBA, he has plenty of time to keep climbing the leaderboards. And with the big man being one of the NBA’s most dominant scorers last season and into the first half of this season, Embiid doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
Just last year, Embiid led the NBA in points per game, averaging 31 points on 20 shots per game. This season, he increased his shots per game to 21. This equates to his 34 points per game leading the league through his 26-game action in the first.
