The Jets interviewed Eagles passing game coordinator Kevin Paturo about the vacancy of the offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Bringing in from Indianapolis by Nick Sirianni, Patullo is a 14-year NFL coaching veteran and acclaimed offensive mind. He was on the Jets staff for Todd Bowles in his 2015 and he was in 2016.
The Jets fired offensive coordinator Mike Ruffler for the first time in two years Wednesday. Robert brought in from San Francisco when Ruffler was hired last year, but the Jets have failed to reach the playoffs in the past two offensive seasons, ranking him 28th and 29th in the NFL. streak extended to his 12th.
Paturo met with the Jets on Friday, according to Pelissero. According to NFL rules, assistant coaches on teams with first-round byes can be interviewed until Sunday.
The 41-year-old Paturo began his NFL career in 2007 as a quality control assistant for the Chiefs under Herm Edwards, then spent the next three years in various entry-level positions on Chan Gary’s Bills staff. He was the assistant receiver coach with the Titans in 2014 under Ken Wisenhunt and the Jets’ quarterback coach in 2015 and 2016 under Bowles, who was the Eagles’ defensive coordinator.
After a year as a senior offensive analyst at Texas A&M, Paturo was hired by Frank Reich as wide receivers coach after Reich left the Eagles after the Super Bowl and became head coach of the Colts. In 2018 and 2019, Paturo was a WR coach under Colts offensive coordinator Siriani and in 2020 was a passing game specialist.
When Siriani became the Eagles’ head coach last year, he brought Paturo to the Eagles in a role dedicated to developing the Eagles’ passing game.
Paturo has a low profile with the Eagles and is rarely allowed to speak to the media, but he is highly regarded throughout the organization and is a prime candidate to be the offensive coordinator should Shane Steichen take the job as head coach. Steichen is a contender for the Texans, Colts and Panthers.
Paturo grew up in Hillsboro, New Jersey. The city is the same hometown as longtime NFL wide receiver Ricky Prohel, former Giants offensive his lineman Sean O’Hara, and former Phillies outfielder Joe Hisris.
Patullo is the fourth member of the Sirianni staff to be interviewed for a promotion to another team. In addition to Steiken, his defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon was interviewed for his coaching job at the head of the Texans, and his defensive back coach Dennard Wilson was interviewed for his defensive coordinator job with the Browns. .
